Founded in 1981, Museum of the Moving Image is the only institution in the United States that deals comprehensively with the art, technology and social impact of film, television and digital media. It houses the nation's largest collection of moving image artifacts.

HISTORY

Learn the art, technology and social impact of film, television and digital media. It houses the nation's largest collection of moving image artifacts; screens hundreds of films annually; and offers education programs to thousands of New York City students and teachers. Its exhibitions—including the core exhibition, Behind the Screen—are noted for their integration of material objects, computer-based interactive experiences, and audiovisual presentations.

The Museum of the Moving Image reopened it's doors on January 15th. After months of renovation, the museum now features a 250+ seat theatre and is nearly double the size of it's original capacity. The museum opens up with a plenty of new exhibitions and films that will be screened.

Located in Astoria , the Museum of the Moving Image specializes in displaying artifacts relating to the art, history, and technology of the moving image. As of today it has approximately 130,000 artifacts, more than any other museum dedicated to the moving images.

The inaugural exhibition, Real Virtuality, which is on display until June 12, features six interactive installations that will disrupt and extend the physical environment of the museum space.

In the next two months the museum will be screening more than 50 films. The films vary from Korean classics to informative films such as the one on how a televised baseball game is produced. There will also be a series of David O. Russell films that will include the recently released movie " The Fighter".
