Randi & Katrine: The Tourist Gaze

Opening Reception: Friday May 4, 7:00pm-late. Gallery Hours: May 5, 6, 10-14, 12-6pm. In "The Tourist Gaze" Copenhagen-based artist duo Randi & Katrine have created a large-scale installation exploring the context of the Flux Factory gallery and its history as a former greeting card factory. The installation is comprised of a grid of buildings, with each rooftop containing its own world of unique pleasure, seduction, and playfulness.  The viewer is invited to walk between the structures and watch each narrative unfold throughout the city. On one roof an abstracted pinewood forest grows, while the next roof displays "Twistee Treat," a fictional pineapple factory with a fabricated history. Admission: FREE. See more.

Maimonides: The Greatest Jewish Philosopher

1:30pm. No Jewish thinker has had a more significant impact ob Judaism than Moses Maimonides. Seen by some as controversial over eight hundred years after his death. Rabbi Marc Angel writings on religion and ethics are still relevant today for people of all faiths. In his new book, Rabbi Angel opens up Maimonides views on ethics and the nature of God, drawing out the meaning we can derive for our own lives from his writings. Civic Action: A Vision for Long Island City

Civic Action features the work of artists Natalie Jeremijenko and xClinic, Mary Miss, Rirkrit Tiravanija, and George Trakas - all known for their innovative works in the public sphere. Civic Action is the second half of a two-part exhibition with The Noguchi Museum and is curated by Amy Smith-Stewart. The artists were asked to proffer alternative visions and an imaginative future for the northern industrial stretch of Long Island City, Queens that encompasses both organizations ­ Socrates and Noguchi. Admission: FREE. Take a walk on the wild side at APEC.  You never know what wildlife you might find when we hike the trails of Alley Pond Park.  Explore parts of the park rarely seen and hike trails that are seldom used.  Blaze trails as we investigate the spring wonders of the park.  Walk will be held rain or shine, so be sure to dress appropriately (and be prepared to get dirty) and wear comfortable shoes. Seven weeks of fun in the sun tennis camps starting in June 2012. Enrollment is available online and you may choose to register for one, two or as many as seven weeks. The weekly program runs from Mondays through Fridays, 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break or a twilight session from 4:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Campers work on development of tennis techniques, tactics, sports conditioning, and strategy geared to maximizing the learning experience in a fun presentation. Science Playground

Mon.-Thurs. (10am-2pm); Fri. (10am-5pm); Weekends (10am-6pm) weather permitting. The nation's largest science playground features 60,000 square feet of exhibits for children of all ages. Slides, seesaws, climbing webs, a water play area, drums, mirrors, sand boxes and more allow kids to explore science by playing.
