East Elmhurst is the first neighborhood you will see out an airplane from LaGuardia Airport. This busy northwest Queens community along the shoreline of Astoria has become a hub for vacationers and commuters traveling via La Guardia or the parkways of Queens.
This once rural area is now among the fastest-changing communities in the city. East Elmhurst has been home to a number of renowned jazz talents, including singer Ella Fitzgerald and bassist Ray Brown. Today you can find Spanish language signs and flyers in libraries and beauty salons as well as the English Service Ministry of the Korean Church of Queens serving second generation Korean-Americans.
East Elmhurst is located in Community Board 3 and it contains the largely commercial Ditmars Boulevard. It is also home to The Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology.
