Bayside, named after Little Neck Bay is in the Northeastern part of Queens. It's suburban surroundings include golf courses, boating, Civil War-era Fort Totten, Alley Pond Environmental Center and Queens County Farm Museum.
Bayside is a solidly middle-class neighborhood located in northeastern Queens in Community District 11. Almost all economic activity in Bayside is retail/commercial although there are some small warehouse operations east of Bell Boulevard near the LIRR Tracks. Bayside's main commercial area is on Bell Boulevard from Northern Boulevard to the Bay Terrace Shopping Center at 26th Avenue. Bayside is home to Queensborough Community College and adjacent to the 655-acre Alley Pond Park.
The Bayside Historical Society was founded in 1964 to collect, preserve, and disseminate information concerning the history of Bayside, Queens, and its adjacent communities; to advocate for the preservation and protection of its most historic structures and distinctive neighborhoods through the landmarking process; and to strive to develop a broad constituency of like-minded preservation and educational organizations to protect the historic integrity of our communities and collections.
The mission of the Bayside Business Association is to be responsible for the overall planning and oversight of commercial and economic programs in Bayside; develop Bell Blvd. into a model shopping district, while creating a village atmosphere, which will enable small businesses to compete in the marketplace; educate Bayside businesses to increase their market share through marketing and publicity techniques; address issues and concerns that might impede members from adequately conducting business by having one voice with government agencies.
