Long Island City (LIC), located on the westernmost edge of Queens straddles Community District 1 & 2. It is directly across the East River from midtown Manhattan. Historically an industrial center, the area is undergoing major change as many factory and warehouse buildings are converted to other uses, including arts and entertainment space, as well as residential lofts.

Hunters Point Community Development Corporation
The Hunters Point CDC evolved from the Hunters Point Community Council, an organization which was active since the 1950s. Hunters Point CDC was founded in 1984 when intense real estate speculation occurred and several major development proposals were planned for Hunters Point. The Hunters Point CDC was formed to educate local residents about development plans, encourage participation in the public review process, and facilitate consensus building among the local community. Today the Hunters Point CDC also seeks to stabilize and improve conditions for the residents and small businesses.

Attracts new businesses to LIC, retains those already there, welcomes new residents and visitors, and promotes a vibrant and authentic mixed-use community.
